HUNTINGTON BEACH : Outgoing Trustees Honored for Service

Share

Ocean View School District officials paid tribute Tuesday to Sheila Marcus and Carolyn Hunt, two outgoing district trustees with a combined service of 20 years on the board.

Marcus, a board member for 13 years, did not seek reelection. Hunt, who has been on the board for seven years, was defeated in November.

In acknowledging her years of work for the district, Marcus said before the session that she is particularly grateful for the chance to serve on a decision-making board.

“It’s a wonderful honor, and I’ll always be thankful for that opportunity,” she said.

She passed up a reelection bid this year, she said, in order “to move on to new adventures” that include working with children, probably in the Oak View area of the district.

Hunt called her tenure “a very fascinating seven years.” She said the district has gone through tough financial times but should be in good condition because of the recently implemented consolidation and reconfiguration of the schools.

Declining enrollment and revenue have forced officials to close several schools in recent years, and the two officials took part in a district realignment this past year that created separate elementary and middle schools. Before this fall, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders attended school with primary grade school children.

Marcus and Hunt received plaques honoring their service.

Newly elected trustees Nancy Stuever and Charles Osterlund take office on Dec. 15.
