COUNTYWIDE : Board Seeks Report on Housing Lists

Share

The Board of Supervisors has asked for a report from county staff on a dispute between housing officials over how waiting lists for low-cost housing are compiled.

Until recently, the Ventura County Area Housing Authority kept separate waiting lists for housing by city, giving residents of those areas preference.

But Housing and Urban Development officials have determined that the waiting lists must be combined into one list. The change has put some people further down on the list, extending their wait.

Ventura County officials formed the housing authority in 1972, including the cities of Ojai, Thousand Oaks, Fillmore, Camarillo, Simi Valley and Moorpark.

The supervisors Tuesday asked Ann Hewitt, administrative analyst for the county, to report back next week on the issue.

Supervisor Maggie Kildee said she wanted to know what impact the change would have on cities and the people on the lists, as well as what, if anything, county officials could do about it.
