Los Angeles City Councilman Nate Holden announced Wednesday that a sports group he funds will contribute $2,000 to the Tujunga Little League.
Holden announced the gift from the 10th Council District Athletic Foundation at a City Hall news conference.
Holden, who represents a central city district, is a candidate for mayor and has been seeking support in the San Fernando Valley.
The foundation is a nonprofit group established initially with $42,000 in campaign funds left over from Holden’s 1991 council race and partially supported by money Holden raised from corporate sponsors running in marathon runs.
Holden said the foundation--managed by his close associates--chose to help finance the Tujunga Little League group after he learned of the league’s financial difficulties last summer while participating in the Sunland-Tujunga Chamber of Commerce’s Fourth of July parade.
Holden also announced Wednesday that the foundation was donating another $8,000 to 17 other sports groups throughout the city.
