Gov. Chiles OKs Tomahawk Missile Tests Over Florida

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. —
Gov. Lawton Chiles has agreed to a Navy plan to resume test flights of unarmed Tomahawk cruise missiles from the Gulf of Mexico over the Florida Panhandle. Two Tomahawk accidents in Alabama in the last 18 months led Chiles to declare that the Navy needed to do more to convince him that the tests would be safe. Neither accident caused any injuries or property damage.
