Share

Ventura County judges have unanimously reelected Steven Z. Perren as the presiding judge of the Superior Court for 1993, officials said Monday.

The judges for a second year also selected Bruce A. Clark as presiding judge of the Municipal Court for the upcoming year. Melinda A. Johnson was reelected as assistant presiding judge of the Superior Court and John R. Smiley as assistant presiding judge of the Municipal Court.

Presiding judges oversee administrative duties for benches of Superior and Municipal courts, including setting an annual budget for each and assigning judges to courtrooms. The judges also consider policy matters affecting the courts.

The 27 judges in the Municipal and Superior courts each year elect four of their peers to fill the posts.

Perren has served as a judge for the Superior Court for 13 years. He was admitted to the California Bar in 1967 and has been in private practice and public service as a deputy district attorney in Ventura County.

A Municipal Court judge since 1979, Clark has previously served as a senior deputy district attorney in Ventura County. Johnson, a former Municipal Court judge, was elevated to the Superior Court in 1982. Smiley was appointed to the Municipal Court in 1986.
