Pasadena : Skills Center Plan Advances

Pasadena City College is a step closer to acquiring property for a new skills center after a decision Tuesday by the Pasadena Board of Education to sell a former school site to a public entity, rather than seek the highest bid.

The five member board’s unanimous approval of the sale will allow school administrators to begin negotiating a price with the college for the property at 3081 Foothill Blvd.

College President Jack Scott said at a hearing last month that PCC has $4 million available to purchase the former continuation school site. The property has been appraised as high as $5.5 million. Negotiating the difference may involve the use of college facilities by district students.

The existing PCC skills center now operates rent-free in part of a former district middle school on South Oak Knoll Avenue.
