Desalination Proposal
Your article on desalination missed a key point. Even if God had created the ocean as a body of fresh drinking water, Southern California could not afford the economic costs or the environmental consequences required to pump large quantities of water uphill to the users.
Large-scale desalination is feasible only in areas such as Saudi Arabia where oil is cheap, the land is near sea level, no other water sources exist and environmental concerns are secondary.
None of these conditions are met in Southern California, and large-scale desalination is not a viable consideration for the foreseeable future.
