LANCASTER : Assistance OKd for Mobile Homes
Low-income mobile-home owners in Lancaster soon will be able to apply for $7,500 city grants toward the purchase of new units under a new program aimed at replacing the city’s aging and often dilapidated stock of mobile homes.
The Lancaster City Council this week voted 5 to 0 to approve the program, already budgeted at about $690,000, enough for about 90 low-income families.
The city is already accepting inquiries from the public about the program.
City Redevelopment Director Steve Dukett said Lancaster hopes to arrange the purchase and installation of new single-wide mobile homes worth about $15,000 each, meaning families with grants would pay only half that price.
But the new homes could only be located in parks that meet health, safety and other standards.
There are nearly 3,800 mobile homes spread among 33 parks in the city.
