China Schooling Divorcing Pairs on Amicable Partings
A Chinese court, faced with a rising number of broken marriages, has established a school for divorcing couples to help them part amicably or be reconciled, the People’s Daily said Friday.
The one-month course set up by Jinan district court in Shandong province “provides systematic education on law, policies, morals and ethics so that couples will take a correct attitude toward divorce,” it said.
“The school tries to persuade couples who may possibly be reconciled, but for those whose marriages are doomed it provides consultation so they can part in a civilized way,” the newspaper said.
The course has taken 290 students since it began six months ago. Of them, nearly 37% decided to stay married while another 45% divorced amicably.
