Philipp C. Jung, 43, a set designer for theater, opera and dance productions. Among Jung’s best-known works were the set designs for Broadway’s “Eastern Standard,” “Mastergate” and “Closer Than Ever.” He also worked in New York on “Major Barbara,” “The Dark at the Top of the Stairs” and “The Madwoman of Central Park West,” and on productions in Boston and Santa Fe, N.M. In Los Angeles in 1990 he did the sets for “The Lisbon Traviata” at the Mark Taper Forum. Jung graduated from the Yale School of Drama and later studied in London. He moved to San Luis Obispo two years ago where he taught theater design at California Polytechnic Institute. In San Luis Obispo on Thursday of the complications of AIDS, friends said.
