Phoenix Plagued by Smog

PHOENIX — The Valley of the Sun turned into the valley of the smog Thursday as officials issued the third air-pollution advisory in three weeks for the nation’s ninth-largest city. Residents of the metropolitan area were urged to car pool, ride the bus, combine short trips and avoid using fireplaces to ease the level of carbon monoxide.
