Sheriff’s deputies Sunday arrested two Oxnard residents suspected of stealing $2,000 worth of stereos and other accessories from cars in the parking lots of two Thousand Oaks shopping malls.

Osualdo Quiroz, 20, and a 14-year-old male were caught as they fled the Oaks Mall after a security officer saw them breaking into a vehicle around 10:30 a.m., deputies said.

The pair jumped into their car and drove over a parking lot planter in an attempt to flee, officials said. A sheriff’s deputy in Camarillo saw the suspects’ vehicle traveling north on the Ventura Freeway at Santa Rosa Road and pulled it over, authorities said.

Inside the vehicle, the deputy found equipment stolen from the car at the Oaks Mall and another vehicle burglarized earlier at Janss Mall, officials said.

Quiroz was being held in County Jail late Sunday and the juvenile, who was not identified because of his age, was released to his parents, officials said.
