Recession Falls to Toasts of Recovery

Share

The worst must be over--economically speaking. On the heels of its successful Rece$$ion Red table wine, a Santa Ynez, Calif., winery is shipping some of the same wine with a new label: Recovery Red.

“We wanted to make sure that the national economy was truly in a recovery mode before we released our Recovery wine,” said Barry Johnson, general manager of Gainey Vineyard. “During the past few weeks, there seems to be an overall boost in consumer confidence.”

With Rece$$ion and Recovery reds being sold side by side for a time, the winery’s marketing strategy could help pollsters sort out the country’s mood. Money won’t be an object, since both wines weigh in at a modest $5 to $7 a bottle.
