Abortion Case Deliberations

In response to “The Rescue of Roe vs. Wade,” Column One, Dec. 13:

I applaud your informative and interesting article concerning the saving of the Roe vs. Wade decision that legalized a woman’s constitutional right to choose.

Justice David Souter’s argument of legal precedent was compelling. Without it, the high court would be reduced to just another politically manipulated forum.

I particularly admired Judge Anthony Kennedy for his courage to resist the pressures of the forceful Antonin Scalia and William Rehnquist and, perhaps, his own religious beliefs.

Justice Sandra Day O’Connor displayed an acute sensitivity to the difficult issues faced by women as they attempt to decide for themselves on this controversial issue.

This Supreme Court has certainly proved to be unpredictable--a characteristic that is essential if each case is to be decided on its own merit.
