LONGER LOOK: County officials know immigration can be a sensitive issue. That’s why they’ve decided to take an extra month to study the cost of health and social services to illegal immigrants. A similar report in San Diego drew fire from groups who believed government was blaming new immigrants for current economic woes. . . . “Everybody is trying to be very careful,” says Russ Barrios, assistant to Supervisor Don R. Roth. “Obviously, we’re taking it very seriously.”
