Unknown Holiday, but Cards Sell Well

BEIJING —
Chinese caught up in crazes of Westernization and consumerism are blindly snapping up millions of Christmas cards for friends and relatives who have little or no idea what the holiday means.
Door-to-door Christmas card salesmen are helping companies sell tens of thousands per day.
“Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Season’s Greetings are becoming household words in China, even though many Chinese do not even know the exact meaning of these English holiday messages,” the official China Daily said Tuesday.
