Oki Named Presiding Judge of Municipal Court

Dan Oki has been selected as presiding judge of Citrus Municipal Court in West Covina.

Oki, 41, was picked by the court’s seven judges and three commissioners, or acting judges, to begin a one-year stint Jan. 4.

He will direct the assignment and handling of cases by the judges and commissioners, as well as oversee the court’s 125 employees.

West Covina attorney Charles W. McCoy Jr., 46, was named by Gov. Pete Wilson to replace retired judge Dana S. Henry on the Superior Court bench.

Glendora Police Officer Jamie Caldwell and Agent Scott Naramore have been singled out as Outstanding Young Public Safety Officers by the California Junior Chamber of Commerce.

They are two of five recipients selected statewide for their dedication and involvement in the community.

Both work with children, Naramore in the field of safety and Caldwell in drug and alcohol abuse.

Monrovia Mayor Pro Tem Lara Blakely has been appointed chair of the League of California Cities’ Policy Committee on Housing, Community and Economic Development.

The committee is responsible for determining policy in the areas of affordable housing, economic development, zoning, building regulations and redevelopment.

The league is a lobbying and professional development organization composed of California’s 469 cities.

Longtime San Gabriel resident Gus Hillmann is leaving the city Parks and Recreation Commission after six years.

The departing commissioner, a retired principal in the city schools, will be succeeded by Julie Liu Chen, a graduate of Columbia University.

Chen, a branch coordinator for an investment firm, also volunteers with children at Family Counseling Service in San Gabriel.

Harold Wash of West Covina has been elected president of the San Gabriel Valley branch of the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People.

Wash serves on the West Covina Human Relations Commission and is a member of the West Covina Chamber of Commerce.

Shari Asplund of San Gabriel, a project administrator at Jet Propulsion Laboratory, has been elected operations treasurer of the National Women’s Political Caucus of California.

The 2,500-member group is part of the larger national organization of 35,000 members dedicated to increasing the number of feminist women in elected and appointed offices.

Sgt. Steve Senkle, support services supervisor for the Claremont Police Department, has been named the city’s Employee of the Year for 1992.

Senkle was honored for the work he has done to save money-- estimated at more than $30,000-- and improve operating efficiencies through developing and implementing computer software programs for warehouse inventory, attendance control, recreation registration and false-alarm tracking.

Monrovia Assistant City Manager Jeanne L. Kennedy has retired after 12 years with the city. Kennedy served as acting city manager for five months in 1991 before Rod Gould was appointed to the job.

In 1992, she was awarded the John H. Nail Award by the League of California Cities for being an exceptional assistant.

Kennedy was replaced by Kay Jimno, who has worked in six California cities, most recently as director of administrative services for West Hollywood.
