Ahmanson and Soka Projects

Share

We’re witnessing another atrocity by state and local government bureaucracies in which the government is moving to destroy private enterprise.

The Mountains Recreation and Conservancy Authority and its associated board and districts--stocked full of political appointees, not elected officials--is attempting to condemn 244 acres of Soka University land, supposedly to build park headquarters buildings.

There is plenty of land already owned by park agencies where this alphabet soup can build ranger houses, maintenance shacks and whatever to their hearts’ content. Just visit the corner of Mulholland Drive and Malibu Canyon and look north to the vistas of untouched open space.

Why is the government increasing debt on the overburdened taxpayers--when it looks like we’re already heading for more tax increases in 1993--when there is already land available for them?

If they do have to buy land so desperately, why not buy from someone who wants or needs to sell? Thousands of hungry real estate agents would be glad to find them a better deal.
