Council Is a 3-Ring Circus

Share

After listening to the discussion about Air Force Plant 42 at the Lancaster City Council meeting Dec. 7, I understand why this area presented such a problem to the council.

Councilman Hearns said he did not understand what he was voting for when he voted for high density in that area. His excuse for his earlier vote was that he was after all . . . not a politician.

Councilman Rodio, who had previously voted for high-density housing, said he was confused. I was appalled by his apology to the developers in attendance for his vote for the rezone. He should apologize to the citizens of Lancaster.

Mayor George Root seems to think he is a talk-show host who must inject the proper amount of laughter into the discussions.

I don’t understand why he thinks this is necessary to provide leadership, but it does keep the three-ring circus going. Job loss to Antelope Valley is not a subject to be taken lightly. The developers stuck with an expensive Mello-Roos gone sour are not laughing either.

With one councilman not knowing what he is doing, another confused with the situation and a third one who thinks the other two are very funny, I may take Councilman Hearns’ advice and pray . . . that in the 1994 elections the citizens of Lancaster will opt for council members who understand what they vote for.
