Stopping Enticements Will Stop Immigrants

Our readers wrote letters throughout 1992, expressing their viewpoints on a variety of issues. Here are condensed versions of some of those letters to help us remember the events that mattered to Orange County readers this past year. We would like to thank the readers who took the time to share their views, and we look forward to hearing from them and others in 1992.

I am sick to death of hearing about each and every one of the deaths to migrant farm workers crossing the border. Though it is a shame and a travesty that this kind of thing is happening, I am tired of getting the blame as an American citizen and footing the bill. . . .

Cash is the carrot leading the wave over the border. If we remove the carrot, the deaths will stop as well as the illegal immigration. And the only way to achieve this is to punish severely the Americans who are offering the carrots.
