California IN BRIEF : FRESNO : Skiers Found After 2 Days in Mountains
A couple from Missouri were recovering Saturday from spending two nights in the mountains after getting lost while cross-country skiing. Alan Pitt and Kathryn Lee of Maplewood, Mo., were hospitalized in stable condition, suffering from hypothermia and exhaustion, a hospital spokesman said. Pitt and Lee were spending the Christmas holiday with his family in Fresno when they visited friends in the Sierra National Forest and decided to go skiing. During their two nights in the mountains, where the temperature fell to about 10 degrees, they built a shelter out of branches. Rescuers who heard Lee’s cries for help about 7:30 a.m. found the pair several miles off a ski trail, Fresno County Sheriff’s Lt. Robert Hagler said.
