The Case Goes On: The Minnesota Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday that actor Robert Carradine can sue a state trooper who hauled him to jail for fingerprinting and a strip-search after stopping him for speeding five years ago. Carradine, who lives in Los Angeles, had driven in a race at Brainerd International Raceway and was driving to the Twin Cities airport to catch an early morning flight when he was arrested in July 1987. He claims state trooper Patrick Chase gave a false, embellished report of the arrest. A three-judge panel decided Carradine could sue for defamation and negligent infliction of emotional distress, but that the officer did not violate Carradine’s rights when he stopped him. In lower courts, some rulings favored the trooper, some the actor. Both appealed.
