Hopkins and Frost Knighted

Actor Anthony Hopkins and television interviewer David Frost were awarded knighthoods in a New Year’s honors list recognizing the achievements of 940 Britons and members of the British Commonwealth.

Welsh-born Hopkins, 55, capped a long screen and stage career when he won a best-actor Oscar in 1992 for his chilling portrayal of Hannibal the Cannibal in “Silence of the Lambs.”

Frost, 53, carved out a leading position as a political interviewer in both Britain and the United States after launching his career in the satirical 1960s television show “That Was the Week That Was.”

Classical music composer Malcolm Arnold, 71, was also knighted, while romantic novelist Catherine Cookson, 86, and soprano Margaret Price, 51, were made dames.
