Hearing Delayed in Bombing Case
A judge postponed until Jan. 7 the preliminary hearing of a man accused of attempted murder in a bombing incident last month that injured a Simi Valley couple.
Municipal Judge Thomas Hutchins took the action Wednesday after the defense attorney for James R. McKeever said his client, who was wheeled into the courtroom on a gurney, was taking new back medication that made him drowsy.
Prosecutors have charged that Hutchins assembled the bomb that was thrown through the bedroom window of the house where it caught fire and exploded, injuring John Monroe and his wife, Charlene Mayer.
McKeever’s wife, Karen Dunlop, and Monroe had been involved in a custody battle over their 7-year-old son before the incident. The boy was testifying at the start of the preliminary hearing Tuesday when McKeever complained about severe pain from an old back injury.
