Playa del Rey : Deadline on Playa Comments

Share

Today is the deadline for public comment on voluminous documents detailing the environmental impact of building the massive Playa Vista project between Marina del Rey and the Westchester Bluffs.

City planner Richard Takase said comments must be postmarked no later than New Year’s Eve to be considered in the preparation of a final environmental impact report on the first phase of the vast project.

Developer Maguire Thomas Partners wants to build one of the biggest projects in Los Angeles history in several stages, beginning with 3,246 residential units, 1.25 million square feet of office space, 35,000 square feet of retail space and 300 hotel rooms.

Ultimately, plans call for a city-within-a-city consisting of 13,085 apartments, townhouses and condominiums, 5 million square feet of office space, 595,000 square feet of retail space, 1,050 hotel rooms, and a new marina with docks for as many as 840 boats.

Two draft environmental impact reports detailing the effects of constructing the first phase of the project and the complete master plan were released for public review and comment in October. A lengthy public hearing on the documents took place in Westchester earlier this month.

But at the request of Los Angeles City Councilwoman Ruth Galanter and some community groups, the deadline for public comment was extended twice because of the size of the documents, which are more than 2,000 pages long.

Today’s deadline is final. Comments should be addressed to Takase at the Los Angeles City Planning Department, City Hall, Room 505, 200 N. Spring St., Los Angeles, 90012.
