HONOR ROLL: So far, 150 local trees have been nominated for the county Tree Society’s upcoming book, a sort of arboreal hall of fame. . . . The honor roll will include a redwood in a traffic island in Irvine and a California sycamore in Laguna Hills that was old when the Pilgrims landed. . . . But the stars will be a Tecate cypress in a canyon south of the Riverside Freeway, the largest known example of the rare species, and an immense coast live oak on the Rancho Mission Viejo Land Conservancy. Its estimated 200-foot spread is believed to make it the biggest live oak anywhere.
