Bassett : Schools Plan Home Visits
Bassett school officials--from bus drivers to teachers and board members--will go door-to-door to more than 500 homes Saturday in an effort to involve parents in their children’s education, the district superintendent said.
The outreach walk is part of a massive restructuring of the Bassett Unified School District designed to tailor educational programs to the largely Latino student body and to offer parents and teachers a chance to choose which type of learning environment they prefer, Supt. Linda Gonzales said.
“We believe the key to academic success is the parent. And we believe that nobody knows the child better than the parent,” Gonzales said.
Staff will hit the streets early Saturday in bilingual teams to inform parents about changes coming to the Bassett district in the 1993-94 school year, Gonzales said.
Each school will offer a different type of learning environment, from an accelerated middle school for ambitious students to an academy-style middle school for parents in search of a stricter atmosphere.
