Rep. Howard P. (Buck) McKeon, who was sworn in Tuesday to represent the new 25th District, this week was assigned to three House subcommittees he had sought.

McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) was appointed to the Public Works and Transportation subcommittees on aviation and surface transportation. He also won a spot on the Education and Labor subcommittee on elementary, secondary and vocational education.

“I was real happy about the two in Public Works because I think I’m going to be able to work to help the country and the district,” said McKeon, who has made securing federal funds for improving district highways and expanding Palmdale Regional Airport top priorities.

Of the Education panel, he said: “At least they’re going to know the feelings of somebody who has served on a school board, what the problems are in education in California. I can be a spokesperson for those people, not to mention the parents of children who are in school who are really frustrated.”

McKeon was a trustee of the William S. Hart Union High School District for eight years.

He was also appointed to the Education and Labor subcommittees on post-secondary education and labor-management relations.

McKeon’s district includes the Antelope and Santa Clarita valleys and parts of the northern San Fernando Valley.
