SOUTH-CENTRAL : A Homecoming for Police Commander
Police Lt. Thomas (Reggie) Maeweather, a native of South-Central, has returned to the neighborhood where he grew up to command the detective division at the 77th Street police station.
“I owe this community a lot,” he said. “To be back here and providing these people with service is important to me.”
Maeweather, 45, attended 75th Street Elementary School and is a graduate of Fremont High School. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from Cal State Los Angeles, and a master’s degree in public administration from Pepperdine University.
Before assuming command of the detective division, the 18-year department veteran was the assistant commanding officer of the detective unit at the Foothill Division in the San Fernando Valley.
Maeweather is a member of Faithful Central Missionary Baptist Church on South Hoover Street.
He supervises 76 officers and detectives.
