From Times Staff and Wire Reports

New York City’s permit for the 1993 St. Patrick’s Day parade has been awarded to a new group that promises to allow Irish gays to march under their own banner. The Ancient Order of Hibernians, the fraternal society that has sponsored the parade for 139 years, was refused the permit. The Hibernians have been embroiled in a bitter three-year struggle to prevent the Irish Lesbian and Gay Organization from marching as an official group, and has been at odds with Mayor David N. Dinkins.
