JOHANNESBURG : Talks About Talks

Share

Leaders of the African National Congress and its nemesis, the Inkatha Freedom Party, meet Friday for the latest in a series of talks aimed at clearing the way for a summit between Nelson Mandela and Mangosuthu Gatsha Buthelezi in February or March.

Buthelezi pulled out of multi-party constitutional talks last September in a huff over agreements reached by Mandela and President Frederik W. de Klerk. Buthelezi’s Inkatha party is considered a key player in the constitutional process, and any attempt to exclude him is likely to lead to further bloodshed.
