Ireland’s Premier Forms Coalition Government

DUBLIN, Ireland — After seven weeks of negotiations, Prime Minister Albert Reynolds on Tuesday formed a coalition government with the left-leaning Labor Party to win a second term in office.
The popular Labor leader, Dick Spring, will be deputy prime minister and foreign minister, and five of 14 other Cabinet posts went to Labor. The party made big gains at the expense of Reynolds’ long-dominant Fianna Fail in the Nov. 25 general elections.
The Dail, Ireland’s Parliament, approved the coalition with Reynolds at its head by a 102-60 vote.
The government pledged to attack Ireland’s 20% unemployment.
