Two youths have been arrested on suspicion of shooting out more than 200 windows in a two-day BB gun spree through Glendale, Highland Park, La Crescenta and Sunland-Tujunga, Los Angeles police said Friday.

Patrick Scott McCarthy, 19, of Glendale and a 15-year-old Sunland boy were arrested Tuesday night after they were spotted shooting out car windows in Sunland, Detective Don Nielsen said.

Both were arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism, police said. McCarthy was released on $10,000 bail and the juvenile was released to his parents, Nielsen said.

Police found BB pistols and several thousand BBs in McCarthy’s car, Nielsen said.

The shooting spree began early Monday in Highland Park and continued on and off until the arrests Tuesday night, police said. The two allegedly drove along residential and commercial streets firing mainly at car windows and windshields, Nielsen said. They also hit many windows in homes and businesses, he said.

“They went absolutely nuts with these BB guns,” Nielsen said. “On some streets they hit almost every car. . . . I have more than 100 complaints against them in the Sunland-Tujunga area. Glendale police have about 45 cases.”

Nielsen said more charges may be filed after he discusses the case with Los Angeles police in Highland Park and sheriff’s deputies in La Crescenta, where similar incidents have occurred.

Nielsen said McCarthy and the youth admitted to taking part in the spree that may have caused more than $20,000 damage. Nielsen said police will help victims collect restitution if possible.

“They admit to all of them,” Nielsen said. “They can’t even remember them all. . . . The adult said that ‘if you have a report of a car or business getting its window shot out on the 12th or 13th, we did it.’ ”
