LECTURES: Mental health professionals will lecture as part of an ongoing program at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 7769 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Canoga Park. Today’s presentation on “Active Listening” will be given by Jackie Brend. “How to Deal With Rejection” will be the topic of Alexandria Hodes’ lecture on Jan. 30, and Susan Forthman will speak Feb. 6 on “Overcoming Procrastination.” Each lecture will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon. Admission is free, but a freewill offering will be taken.

PERFORMANCE: The Heritage Singers, a Seventh-day Adventist vocal group, will perform at 4 p.m. today at Glendale High School, 1440 E. Broadway. Admission is free.

WELCOME: Blenda J. Wilson, president of Cal State Northridge, will speak at the First Presbyterian Church of Granada Hills at the 9 a.m. service Sunday. The event, called “CSUN Day,” is meant to introduce the congregation to Wilson, former chancellor of the University of Michigan at Dearborn. The church is at 10400 Zelzah Ave., Northridge.

BOOK DISCUSSION: The Sisterhood of Temple Judea in Tarzana will present on Tuesday Rabbi Steven Carr Rubin, who will discuss his book “Raising Jewish Children in a Contemporary Society.” The event is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the synagogue, 5429 Lindley Ave. Admission is free.

SPECIAL SABBATH: Rabbi Efraim Warshaw and Cantor Laurie Rimland-Bonn will be honored at 7:45 p.m. Friday at a special Sabbath eve service at Temple Emmanu El of Burbank, 1302 N. Glenoaks Blvd. The service is an expression of appreciation to Warshaw and Rimland-Bonn, who have led the synagogue for the past year and a half.

In recognition of the synagogue’s recent growth, the president of the Pacific Southwest Region of the United Synagogues of America will present the congregation with a first place award for excellence in innovative worship. The former rabbi of Temple Emmanu El, Ben-Zion Bergman, will speak on “Praying Previously and Presently,” and the choir will perform under the direction of Rimland-Bonn.
