Convicted Spy Jonathan Pollard

Share

Clearly, Pollard is no hero and for Rabbi Weiss to compare him in any way to Natan Sharansky seems nothing less than obscene. Further, how can an appeal for clemency made by the Israeli government, while Rafael Eitan (the true villain in this unsavory affair) serves as a leading member of the Knesset, be treated as anything but an attempt to protect a former agent? Nevertheless, an injustice does exist. Pollard and the government did agree to a guilty plea for a less than life sentence. According to Wolf Blitzer’s book, the expected sentence was 25 years with eligibility for parole in eight. This doesn’t equate to immediate release or to permanent incarceration.
