World IN BRIEF : ANGOLA : Air Attack Foils Oil Workers’ Rescue

Government planes attacked UNITA positions in northern Angola, stymieing attempts to evacuate foreign oil workers trapped for two weeks in a rebel-held town. The Brussels-based oil company Petrofina has been thwarted in its attempts to rescue about 20 workers who missed evacuation when UNITA troops overran Soyo on Jan. 18.
