Middle East Turmoil

For human rights activists, the U.S. acceptance of Israel’s plan to take back one-fourth of the 400 Palestinians it transferred to Lebanon is a disappointment.

There is little doubt in the United Nations that Israel continues to be in defiance of Resolution 799. It’s no longer a perception but an actuality that the United States’ action in behalf of Israel is a good example of how it practices different human rights standards for Israel. When Saddam Hussein was not in 100% compliance with U.N. resolutions, the U.S. would insist that every aspect of the U.N. resolution be obeyed. And in fact it did the enforcement.

Since President Eisenhower, most presidents haven’t had the courage to treat Israel in the same manner that the U.S. treats other nations; fairly, no more no less.
