Life Alert to Pay Fine: The maker of the Life Alert emergency-response system will pay $1.35 million, including $700,000 in restitution to past customers, as part of an out of court settlement of a lawsuit accusing the company of using misleading sales pitches. Life Alert Emergency Response Inc., based in Chatsworth, also must stop using alleged high-pressure sales tactics as part of the settlement of a $2-million lawsuit brought against the company by district attorneys from nine California counties--including Los Angeles--and state Atty. Gen. Dan Lungren.
