Harold Taylor; Became College President at 30
Harold Taylor, 78, who at 30 became the nation’s youngest college president when he was chosen to lead Sarah Lawrence College, one of the country’s most unconventional schools. The Toronto-born Taylor was professor of philosophy at the University of Wisconsin before becoming president of Sarah Lawrence in Bronxville in 1944. He retired from Sarah Lawrence in 1959, then taught at the New School for Social Research and City University of New York. He was host of ABC’s “Meet the Professor” series from 1962 to 1963. In New York City on Tuesday of what his family described as natural causes.
