KOREATOWN : Riot Counseling in Spanish, English

Share

Free counseling in Spanish and English is available in Koreatown for people who continue to experience emotional and psychological problems from last spring’s riots.

The Asian Pacific Counseling and Treatment Center, which has been providing counseling to the Asian/Pacific-American community, has expanded its outreach to other communities through its Hollywood unit with funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

“All of us living in Los Angeles were victims in one way or another but some of us cope with it and handle it better than others,” said Annette Tarsky, the unit’s outreach counselor.

Rigoverto C. Briceno, a psychologist working with the counseling unit, said many people still display symptoms of anxiety, anger, insomnia and lethargy. They may also have difficulty concentrating and increased stress in relationships. If ignored, the problems may become chronic, Briceno said.

Counseling is available by appointment Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the center’s office, 3550 W. 6th St., Suite 500.
