The Little Eagles of Siberia, a children’s choir and dance ensemble from the former Soviet Union, will be at the Ambassador Auditorium in Pasadena on Tuesday.

The group has just started a 12-week tour, heading across North America from west to east and back.

The 20 singers and eight dancers perform national songs and dances native to Central Siberia as well as representative Russian and international classics. Members range in age from 9 to 17. They are directed by Ludmilla Stepenkova, with the dancers under the direction of Vera Nicholaeva Gudofskaya.

The ensemble, founded in 1971, is from Krasnoyarsk, Central Siberia, about 1,800 miles east of

Moscow. The area, on the edge of the Siberian plateau next to the mountains of Tibet, is closer to Mongolia and China than it is to Moscow.

According to information from the group, their culture has a lot in common with that of other far-

north peoples. In the 16th Century, Krasnoyarsk was a Cossack fort defending the junction of the Yenisey and Kacha rivers from invading Tartars. Today, the old outpost has a population of nearly 1 million.

The program at the Ambassador, 300 W. Green St., begins at 8 p.m. Ticket prices: $21 for orchestra, $20 front balcony and $18 rear balcony. To order, call (800) 266-2378 or (818) 304-6161.
