On Pacemakers
Kathleen Doheny’s story (“A Larger World for Heart Patients,” Jan. 10) seems to say that a patient with a pacemaker can make adjustments to their pacemaker. I’ve had a pacemaker for 16 years and recently got my fourth one. Trust me, I can’t make any adjustments.

Kathleen Doheny responds: The article did not mean to suggest that a patient could make adjustments to a pacemaker. If the pacemaker is not working properly, CardioCare’s pacemaker monitoring service notifies the patient’s doctor , who is then given instructions about what to do. This might include making an adjustment with a device that communicates via radio waves with the pacemaker .
