Box Office Hog: Columbia’s “Groundhog Day,” the new comedy starring Bill Murray, overshadowed its competition during the weekend, taking in an estimated $12 million at the box office. Warner Bros.’ “Sommersby,” the romantic film with Jodie Foster and Richard Gere, was in second place with $8.4 million. Disney’s “Homeward Bound” took in $6.1 million; the studio’s “Aladdin” was next with $5.1 million. New Line’s “National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon 1,” last week’s box-office winner, took fifth place with $5 million. Final box-office figures including today’s Presidents’ Day holiday will be released later.
