God save us from the medical ethicists. That ethicists should criticize the parents of Stacy Sewell for donating portions of their lungs, and thus risking their own lives, to save their daughter’s life is insane--considering we live in a world where our young people in the military are asked to put their lives on the line for people they don’t know in countries they can barely find on a map.

Let the so-called ethicists--the lawyers, doctors and clergy people who make it their business to pass God-like judgments on us mere mortals--spend their time and energies solving weightier problems--like war and disease and poverty. Let parents like Stacy’s follow their instincts when trying to protect their offspring, even if it means putting their own lives at risk. It’s their decision and that of the attending physicians. Let them make it.
