Construction of President Clinton’s $30,000 jogging track, suspended briefly while donations were awaited, will resume next week, Press Secretary Dee Dee Myers said Wednesday.

A Washington-area construction firm, Digeronimo & Associates, has contributed $10,000 worth of material and will help build the track, she said. An additional $20,000 is needed to complete the project.

Clinton requested the track. His almost daily jogs along Washington streets have tied up traffic, and acquaintances have suggested that a softer, rubber track would be easier on his legs.

Workers had peeled cement from a section of a circular driveway when reporters asked about the work last week. Clinton said he had approved a track as long as no tax money was used. The National Park Foundation is handling contributions.
