Paperwork Causes Stewart to Miss Trip

Keith Stewart, UC Irvine’s second-leading scorer, did not make the Anteaters’ two-game trip because of a paperwork problem involving his academic eligibility, Athletic Director Dan Guerrero said Thursday.

Stewart missed the team’s victory over San Jose State and also will miss the game against Pacific in Stockton on Saturday, but Guerrero said he expects him to return for Monday’s game against Cal State Long Beach.

Guerrero said the problem is not related to Stewart’s academic performance, but to university records that do not correctly indicate that he is enrolled in the minimum of 12 class units required for eligibility.

“We know he is enrolled in the right amount of classes,” Guerrero said. “We need to make sure administratively it’s cleared up.”

Stewart, a senior guard who averages 16.4 points, scored a career-high 29 points Monday in a loss to Hofstra.
