Readers Are Stunned Shoemaker Was Able to Collect on Accident

Bill Shoemaker’s accident with resulting paralysis was very unfortunate, and I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone. But I must say, his subsequent actions are reflective of a society in which people do not take responsibility for their behavior.

I am unaware of any admission of fault on Mr. Shoemaker’s part or any public service he has done regarding the dangers of driving while intoxicated. Instead, he has chosen to blame both the vehicle and the highway for being unsafe, and the doctors for being negligent, thus far resulting in one large settlement and multiple pending lawsuits.

Mr. Shoemaker has passed the blame to everyone else, but has yet to look in the mirror and identify the person most responsible for his present condition.
