Hyundai Raises Prices on 3 Models: Korean auto maker Hyundai Motor America followed many U.S. and Japanese companies in raising prices on its cars. Hyundai blamed currency exchange rates for the addition of $100 to $150 to base prices on three models. Other car makers have blamed their increases on higher manufacturing costs. The 1993 manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the Excel, Hyundai’s most popular model, starts at $6,899, up $100. Hyundai also raised base prices for the sporty Scoupe by $100 to $9,169, and the Elantra by $150 to $9,149.
