Watch Use of Tax Dollars

Share

It was mildly interesting to hear from a former, one-time county supervisor criticizing me for my concern about how our tax dollars are spent at the county level (Letters to the Editor, March 1).

All of us who pay real estate taxes should be aware of the fact that we contribute 30% more than any other city in taxes paid to the county. Just try to remember when you last used a county service in Thousand Oaks.

I was the only city councilperson to support this ex-supervisor when she ran for her first and only term because I thought she would secure county service we rightfully deserve. She did not and the people of Thousand Oaks recognized her failure.

We had been paying the Ventura County Animal Control Services $180,000 per year until I stepped in and recommended our City Council move our contract to L.A. County and save $90,000 per year of your tax dollars--plus get better services.

I will continue to alert all of the citizens of Thousand Oaks that we must demand accountability for every dollar we send to the county and expect to get good value.

The county must provide the services they are responsible for equitably and fairly to all cities in the county.
