Pilots Say United Wants 30% Cuts: United Airlines pilots, struggling to come to terms with their carrier’s plans to trim costs, say the airline has requested pay cuts and other concessions totaling as much as 30% of earnings, not the 5% that United outlined in January. Speaking at a union meeting in Rosemont, Ill., Roger Hall of United’s Air Line Pilots Assn. said similar cuts were asked of the airline’s other two unions. “United’s proposal offered absolutely nothing in return, not even snap-backs when the economic condition . . . improves,” Hall said.
